Before We Say Goodbye by Toshikazu Kawaguchi

4.0

The 4th instalment of Before the Coffee Gets Cold and I managed to get to this book quite soon after its initial release thanks to the library!
We have the same set-up in the 4 short stories and they were really just as emotional as the previous books, except for me story #2 which follows 'the woman who couldn’t bid her dog farewell'. Well... I bawled my eyes out so much I couldn't see the words on the page. I have never felt so strongly towards a character and never so much empathy, this story destroyed me honestly. It was extremely well done and this story will stay with me for a very long time.
Believe me, I know the irony of this critique as it is a time-travelling café after all, but I am genuinely confused as to why we went back in time in the chronological order of the series. In this book Miki is a baby again, yet in book 3 she is grown up? I don't know if I'm missing something but I was perplexed at the beginning of this book when the timeline didn't follow on from Before Your Memory Fades. Although I was glad to be back at Café Funiculi Funicula rather than Café Donna Donna.
I really need the translation of Book 5 which I believe will be titled Don't Forget Kindness or similar. I cannot wait for more of these stories, it is a firm favourite series.
