Content Warnings for book: Alcoholism, drug use, vomit, death, misogyny
Kink: Verse
This book was not for me, and that’s okay. I should’ve known slowburn would be slooooooow.
My favorite part was the last 20%, when they’re off the island and they finally come together. The epilogue was very cute as well! I loved the glimpse of their lives in the future.
I realized now “survival romance” isn’t a subgenre for me. Sex while in that situation… it just squicked me out a bit, I guess? Plus I kept thinking why they even had the energy for it. I don’t know, I also was just bored? I’m not saying I’ll never read another survival romance, but I don’t think I’ll seek them out.
The couple is cute and I enjoyed the angsty moments when they came up, I definitely cried reading this. Definitely felt feelings.
Women were talked about weirdly, and I know it’s “perspective from an (assumed) straight guy” but eh. Still not pleasant.
Overall, rounded up to 3/5 because Andrews writes well and did get me in the last 20%.
