Reading reviews I can definitely understand that this is not going to be a book for everyone. There's a lot of misogyny and homophobia throughout the whole story. Though I personally didn't feel like it was pointless and meant to just shit on the characters just to shit on the characters. It felt realistic and it's not hard to imagine something like this happening. Though I can imagine it would be a lot to some readers.
Personally, I really enjoyed this! It was sweet and heartwarming in some areas and hard-hitting in others. I loved the cliche quarterback and cheerleader falling in love, but making it gay. I love seeing queer stories done with tropes that have been done a million times before but never with queer characters or rarely with queer characters.
An unexpected thing I really appreciate about this book is the representation of questioning your identity that we get in Amber. Just knowing you're queer but not knowing exactly what label fits you or even knowing if you want a specific label. I also really just loved the ending of this book and the happy ending we do get after all the hardships throughout the story.
Overall an enjoyable read with solid main characters that have solid character development.
