Mortal Desires by Scarlett Reyes
3.0
Vicious & Pilar: A Good Start But, It Could Have Been Better
This is one of those books that sat in my Kindle for a while before I read it. In the mood for a good monster romance, I decided to give this one a try.
MORTAL DESIRES closely resembles the series CHARMED, but instead of three sisters, you have seven sisters that have formed their own coven. Each sister has a specific power., The FMC of this book is Pilar, who has the power of communicating with the dead. As a ferryman who helps souls find peace, she captures the ire of Vicious, the King of Hell who he feels Pilar is stealing souls of his to serve in Hell. The twist of this book is that Pilar and Vicious are fated mates.
This story had a lot of promise and the plot was good. However, the mysterious wording in the book was confusing to me. I waited patiently for the theory of "Everything happens at one." to be explained to me in detail but it never was... at least not clearly enough. I had to read the passage that attempted to explain it over and over again. Still... nothing. I grew so frustrated, I just moved on.
Further, Vicious was a character that I could really come to like, should he be redeemed. In my opinion, he wasn't. The fact that he had his reluctant bride's murderous father (who was in hell) walk her down the aisle was unforgiveable. For someone who despised Pilar, he just woke up one day in love and it all just made the plot seem weak.
The next book isn't slated to be released until late 2024, which seems really late for a follow-up book. Honestly, I lost interest after this one and the prelude to the next book at the end did little to convince me to seek it out in the future. It was just OK. Nothing spectacular but if you want spicy scenes, this book will deliver that. But even that wasn't enough to save this one.
Happy reading!
