alright, to be fair, i had extremely high expectations for this book and maybe it’s my fault that it didn’t exceed them. sally rooney’s understanding of the complexities and intricacies of human dynamics: incredible. i related, understood, and connected with the characters flaws. she was able to fill a void in my heart that i didn’t know was there. that being said, the prose didn’t do it for me. i found it a bit dull…? i’m sure it’s on purpose, meant to be raw and often boring at times, as is life, but i wasn’t captivated. i think ottessa moshfegh captures those feelings a little more efficiently. i’ll still definitely read her other novels, but at least now i understand her style and vision a little better.
