The Wallflower Wager by Tessa Dare
5.0
Actual Rating 4.75 Stars
This is the third book in the Girl Meets Duke Series – and its equal parts entertaining and equal parts emotive enough to keep the reader engaged throughout the plot.
Lady Penelope loves animals, in fact it wouldn’t be wrong to believe that she enjoys the company of the four-legged creatures more than the two-legged ones, and trust me, neither you or me could blame her.
She is living her sedate life, away from the society when her aunt drops the bomb on her – that she has to re – introduce herself into the society with the aim of actually finding a husband or she will be carted back to her home like the spinster she is. It is a blow to her heart, for she had come to believe that she would be left alone with her animals for the rest of her days in peace.
Gabriel Duke is not a part of the nobility; but he loves bringing nobility down on its knees. He restores homes bought from down on their luck aristocracy, remodels them to sell it to families who have money but not the “noble blood” but want to move up in the society.
He buys the house next to Lady Penelope thinking that a house next to a gentle woman would make a better profit as compared to any other. But a sensual meeting with Lady Penelope dispels every assumption he might have made about the woman.
Penelope defies every expectation that Gabriel might have had about women of society – and does so with a smile and aplomb. Gabriel, on the other fascinates Penelope, because he is grumpy, rude and has the gentlest heart in all the men he has known.
Penelope and Gabriel are again perfect for each other – she is sunshine, while he is the cloudy day, she has a smile for everyone while he only talks in grunts. It is this contradiction that makes a pretty darn adorable couple.
Not to mention, we have previous couples visiting us in The Wallflower Wager – and have some hilariously entertaining moments between the men who have vowed to worship these unique and quirky women (the birthing scene had me in splits!) and now makes the wait for the last of the Girl Meets Duke with fervor! 2020 cannot come soon enough for me!
