I enjoyed this more than I thought I would! The plot was a lot of fun, I wasn't expecting a competition so that was a nice surprise. I really liked how gender was handled, I've never read a fantasy with a genderfluid protagonist so that was really nice to see. My only issues were that I felt there was a bit of a pacing issue at the end, things suddenly started wrapping up really quickly and made it easy to lose track (though keep in mind I read this during a 24 hour readathon so that highkey could have been my fault lmao). I also wasn't particularly attached to the characters, and I felt the mcs motives weren't very explicitly stated so was a little confused at times.
