In this powerful hard-hitting YA contemporary, Camryn Garrett successfully grips readers into a compelling storyline. OFF THE RECORD has everything: important discussions on a variety of topics, a couple you can't help wanting to root for, and a plot that will have you holding your breath, just to name a few. My only criticism was that I wish the gendered language around survivors had lessened, or stopped, after Josie realizes her mistake of assuming only women can be survivors. I think it is very important, when handling such sensitive topics, to ensure you leave no room to harm the community you are trying to uplift. Making SA a "women's issue" ends up excluding, isolating, and harming all non-women survivors who may come across this. Overall, I hope this book brings comfort to any SA/SH readers looking for comfort in stories similar to their own!! Garrett amazingly balanced all of the serious discussions with lots of lighthearted fun/funny moments and characters you come to think of as friends. OFF THE RECORD is a book that will undeniably become a classic.
