Insatiable by Meg Cabot

Like a previous reviewer, it took me about one hundred pages to get into this book. And once I did, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I was enjoying the ride. Meena, the main female protagonist, has a lot of character, but it's her supporting cast that really rounds makes her much more likeable.

The storyline itself, which is a modern retelling of Dracula, was intriguing, but I did have some caveats. Namely, I never bought the "love" between Meena and this version's Dracula, Lucien; I can understand that, by being involved in a vampire, Meena might be under his spell, but other than Lucien being what Edward Cullen could never be, there was zero chemistry. Meena has far more chemistry with Alaric Wolf, the vampire slayer from the secret Vatican vampire slaying unit, the Palatine Guard. Granted, I imagined him as Alaric Salazar from The Vampire Diaries throughout most of the text, but Meena and Alaric's banter was definitely fun to read.

The end leaves room for a sequel, and I'd be interested in seeing the future adventures of Meena Harper, her brother Jon, and Alaric Wulf.
