Prince's Gambit by C.S. Pacat
5.0
Oh my, oh my, oh. my. gosh. I am seriously at a loss of words right now, which doesn't happen often so C.S. Pacat should be proud. I loved Captive Prince so much and I really didn't think that it could be topped. But Pacat surprised me, writing a sequel that not only exceeded the feels of book 1, but also took my breath away ]. there were so many feels within the pages of this book. If I had been reading a physical copy rather than an e book I probably would have given myself papercuts as fast as I was turning the pages!
I don't want to get into the plot during this review, because I don't want to spoil anything for anyone that hasn't yet read Captive Prince and is lurking around (if that's you....seriously what are you waiting for. Get on that right now. Seriously. Go.). So instead of talking about plot, I'm just going to focus on Damen and Laurent. I have never, in all my 34 years, shipped two main characters so much in my entire life. There is no insta love here. Pacat creates a slow burn for the reader, filling the spaces with a build of tension and foreplay until it explodes in one intensely amazing bit of chemistry. I could not get enough of the two of them together. It was beautiful! Watching Laurent slowly open up to Damen was amazing, and the way it was written, I could feel every feeling and interaction. I just can't get enough of these two together.
The writing this time around is even better than Captive Prince. C.S Pacat pulls you into the story so quickly and weaves a tangle of lies and deceitfulness. I never really knew who to trust, and who not to trust. Basically the one thing I learned was don't trust anyone you fool! And don't ever think you have Laurent figured out because the minute you do, he'll throw you for another loop!
Thankfully, book 3, Kings Rising will be released in a little over 24 hours. I already pre-ordered it on my kindle and I will be starting it the minute I wake up on Tuesday. Seriously, I want to call of work and just read all day but I just came back from maternity leave so I'm going to have to adult for a little bit and then read...hahahahaha!
