Uzumaki: Spiral into Horror, Vol. 2. by Junji Ito
5.0
Overall 4.5 stars, but I did think that this volume was more of a mixed bag. Each story was so distinct and kind of separate from one another except the Mosquito and Umbilical Cord chapters that blended into one another. Despite the ups and downs of each story I’m still giving this an overall 4.5 stars because my two favorite chapters are in this volume.
There were the highest of highs but also some I didn’t really click with. I realized that the chapters that don’t click with me as much are ones where the spiral takes over some inanimate object such as a hurricane or the house.
When it really works for me is when it fucks with people's minds and turns people crazy. The scariest chapters were the Mosquito and Umbilical Cord chapters. They are probably my favorite in the entire series. It was the perfect mix of scary, I think because childbirth scares me, I hate mosquitos, and the visuals of the blood and placentas freaked me out.
I also wish that there was a bit more Shuichi in this volume, but I'm happy that Kirie got highlighted more. She was able to do more on her own such as saving her brother and discovering the horrors of the spiral on her own without Shuichi warning her.
