The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris

5.0

The Tattooist of Auschwitz is a beautifully written true story of hope and courage during an extremely dark time. Lale, a Slovakian Jew, is sent to the concentration camps at Auschwitz-Birkenau. Because he is able to speak multiple languages, he is given the task of tattooing incoming prisoners. During his imprisonment, he meets and falls in love with fellow prisoner Gita. This tale of love, loss, hope and courage had me completely captivated. Most Holocaust stories are dark and heavy (and rightfully so) but this had a lightness to it that I appreciated. Of course, there are heartbreaking events but the greatest emotion cast throughout this novel is hope. The prisoners work together to survive, and even to thrive, under extremely difficult conditions. I loved the stories of humanity displayed in the extremely inhumane conditions. I loved this true story and am thankful to Lale for sharing it with the world. ♥️Thank you @harpercollinsus for this advance reader in exchange for my honest review.
