This is the second novella in the Singing Hills Cycle, and it is impeccable.
Our cleric, Chih, travels towards their home. In order to get there, they must get the assistance of a mammoth rider in order to navigate a particularly treacherous mountain path. Along the way the pair are beset by a trio of tigers, who are very hungry for both stories and dinner.
I didn’t know I needed a story of love and marriage between a tiger and an aspiring scholar, but it was a sapphic delight and I gleefully absorbed it in one sitting.
