The Grande Odalisque by Florent Ruppert, Jérôme Mulot, Bastien Vivès
4.0
Being able to rely on your partner is one of the biggest things to guarantee a smooth heist. When Alex and Carole are given their next assignment, they realize it’s too big for them to handle on their own and they need back up. This requires finding the right fit and every detail to go correct. When those details don’t line up, we see what happens with these partners in crime think on their feet and trust their gut instincts.
I wasn’t sure what I wanted out of this story but there were many parts that worked for me. I loved the art style a lot more than I anticipated and enjoyed the simplicity of it which really allowed the characters to shine. The unreliability of Alex was a factor that really threw me off and made me question constantly why Carole would continue having her as a partner but then the Mexico event happened and you see just how important of a friend Alex is to her. I loved that nothing was perfect in this and the art heist event was a great example of that. It brought out so much more emotion by the end that I didn’t realize I had for these characters and makes me desperately want to see what happens at the end of this duology.
