I think I would’ve liked this more had I eyeball read the entire thing. I listened to the audiobook for the first half, hated it, was convinced I was going to jump ship, decided to give it one more chance, checked the ebook out on Libby, and eyeball read the rest. The book improved IMMENSELY when I made the switch.
It was going to be a maximum 2-star read when I was on the audiobook route. When I moved to the ebook, it turned to a 4-star experience.
Really makes it impossible to review the thing, though. For example, I was prepared to bitch about the long, pointless conversations during the first half, but then actually enjoyed them in the second half. Could’ve been because of the audiobook. Could’ve been because the second half was legitimately better. I DON’T KNOW WHAT’S REAL AND NOT REAL HERE.
