The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo
4.0
Really really enjoyed this, more than I thought I would. I regret listening to this on audio because Bardugo’s language is so careful and captivating. This is a case of “I should just read what I want, forget all of the reviews.” I’m confused by everyone saying it’s bad because it’s slow—the story’s web is spun BEAUTIFULLY. The biggest issue I had was that I felt it at times was too descriptive and made it difficult to follow what was happening (partially due to switching between characters, but I actually loved that we got to see more of the different characters at play). I would highly recommend this to people who love fantasy, romance, and long, flowy descriptions/“purple prose.”
