3.5 stars. I read this in one day… but… I think maybe it was overhyped for me. I loved Tyler’s struggle with his commitment to God and his love of Poppy. I loved seeing him cry over what his heart wanted, it felt really genuine and like a mature man. I loved Poppy’s journey of being raised rich and spoiled and walking away from her family money and name to be a dancer and be independent of her family’s notoriety. The spice was great. I’m not religious so the scenes on the altar/etc. didn’t hit as super taboo for me, so maybe a bit of the drama/forbidden aspect of this book was lost on me. I loved that Tyler left to discover himself and be without Poppy for almost a year, so he could live his own truth of leaving the clergy. When I read everything I’ve written, there’s nothing specifically wrong with this book that I would have liked to see changed, I just think I was oversold on how hot and spicy it is.
