4.5 stars — This was exactly what I needed after the emotional overload that was Ashe and Hemalo’s book. Not saying that there weren’t emotional moments in this one…but there was also a SHITTON of laughter, and I adored that.
Farli is just so naïve and innocent and just a ray of sunshine. I couldn’t stop delighting in her childlike wonder and brightness, and how she was fascinated by all the new things she was learning on the Lady. I don’t know how anyone could resist her, I really don’t. Basically, I have an epic girl crush. She was sweet, understanding, she felt so much…but she was also brave, and selfless, and epically curious. I also loved how uninhibited she was, probably b/c of the way she grew up in the tribe.
Mardok had good points and bad points. I definitely felt for him and all he went through, and the emotional scars that his time in war had left him with. He needed Farli’s goodness, he deserved it. BUT OMG! It took him FOREVER to figure out that his choice was the selfish one, and it didn’t make any sense in the long run! I get why he was initially hung up, but honestly, he should have figured it out wayyyyy sooner IMO. That’s why I’m rounding down instead of up.
They were fire together though. Their wildly different personalities complemented one another, and brought out the best in one another.
All in all, I can see myself listening to this one again. It just left me feeling good and happy.
