Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trumbo
5.0
Man, what a book. I see why this is considered by some to be the greatest anti-war book ever written, penned in the fateful year of 1939 as if to remind us that these essential things don't really seem to be changing.
I love everything about this book. I love how Trumbo can draw Joe's inner world in the absence of an outer one. I love the writing style, the missing punctuation and capitalization lending a little more stream-of-consciousness feel to the proceedings. I love the argument and the analysis.
Now I'd like to read a Trumbo bio, learn more. In the meantime, so so glad I read this.
