At the beginning of this book, Chloé Cooper Jones is weeks away from impulsively flying to Italy, where she’ll spend time amongst art and beauty and hope to experience a revelation. A philosophy professor and mother with a disability that causes short stature, pain, and difficulties with mobility, Chloé’s travelogue is unprecedented and refreshing. The discoveries she makes have mainly to do with presence and perception. She explores her relationship with her absent father, her experiences with sex and romance, her child’s extreme empathy and sensitivity, and more. Her philosophical dissection of beauty and humanity is enlightening.
