The Darkest Secret by Gena Showalter
3.0
I struggled with this, and it has absolutely nothing to do with the story. It was simply from the fact that it took me so long to read. I am so used to having all day to read cause I was unemployed, but now working in marketing for a publishing company I always feel so busy. I get how at night and still finish up some emails. Then I have like two hours until I need to get some sleep...so I tried to divide that time between reading and my puppy. So instead of taking the usually 2 days to read this lovely book, it took me a week. Ok so enough about me...
First let me say, I absolutely love Gena Showalter and the Lords of the Underworld series. It was one of the first paranormal series that I ever read, and I love all the Lords for their own unique personalities. With that being said, I love Amun the most. I have been waiting for his story for what seems like forever.
In all the previous books Amun comes off as very quiet and kinda shy, but above all he is loyal. He loves his friends more than everything else, and would do anything for them. I think it was this loyalty and his vulnerability that made him my favorite.
The Darkest Secret only made me love him more. Cause underneath all that quietness is a strong man who is willing to die for the ones he love. And who does he end up falling in love with? A hunter. You would think it impossible for a reader to suddenly support or care about a woman who has been so instrumental in the Hunters persuit of the Lords. But Gena slowly made me start to care for Haidee, and by the end of story I was just as big of a fan of Haidee's as I was of Amun.

Something else that I like about this book is that you got to know the Keeper of Defeat, Strider, much more. I have never really cared about him but Gena did a wonderful job of showing us more sides to Strider, and now I can't wait for his turn to fall in love...and Kaia seems like she is going to be a handful.
