True Story Swear To God Volume 1 by Tom Beland, Tom Beland

3.0

This was cute, if a bit too personal and slow to really have much emotional impact for anyone not actually involved with the (true) story. The vignettes of the couple's life were mildly interesting, but there wasn't much in the way of plot or humour. I also didn't really warm to the main guy. Perhaps, as the author, he was painting an overly unflattering portrait of himself, but he came across as needy and insensitive, and quick to anger.

The art style was very nice - reminded me a lot of animation; great facial expressions and nicely styled character design. Sort of Pixar-y, when they do that cutesey fifties thing they were doing a lot around the Monsters, Inc. era. Overall, probably not enough actual story here to make it worth reading any more, but I wish the real life couple the best.
