The Ghosts of Sherwood by Carrie Vaughn
3.0
Apart from really liking the BBC series from the early 00s, I have zero attachment to Robin Hood. I literally picked this up because 1) it's a Tor.com title (and they're my favorite publisher, especially for novellas) and 2) the audiobook was hella short.
Even heroes get old and tired. It's often said that you either die a hero or live long enough to be called a villain. And people hate Robin of Locksley for the unrest he caused. Told between the lady Marion and her oldest daughter Mary, The Ghosts of Sherwood examines the pieces of Britain after the death of King Richard Lionheart, where Robin is back to being everyone's least favorite baron.
Robin was honestly my least favorite baron, too. After his wild and rebellious youth, he is willing to force his daughter to marry, he disregards his wife, and has shunned an old friend. I did like both Mary and Marion, though
