The Bridge Kingdom has been on my TBR for a while, mostly as it’s billed as fantasy enemies to lovers which is my jam. I enjoyed this first instalment, setting the scene by introducing us to our three main characters - Lara, Aren and The Bridge. I didn’t mind the strategy and political exposition but for some it might run a little slow. Side characters are likeable but lightly featured. I’m hoping to see more of them in the next instalment. Lara’s character is consistent but I was a bit taken aback by the pipeline from enemies to allies to friends to “I love you” between her and Ahren, which seemed to run faster and faster as the book continued. Whilst I understand the sense in including time jumps to ground the relationship and keep the plot moving, it left me feeling a little robbed after the build up.
