Mrs Dalloway by Virginia Woolf
4.0
A bit of a strange reading experience. Her writing style felt very disorienting at first, with all that hopping about from person to person. Two pages in I was wondering what on earth I had let myself in for, and embracing the thought that probably I would have to give up on it because it was so confusing and boring.... By page 5 I was crying. You really do have to concentrate on it to follow it, and there are no natural stopping points in the narrative, so it feels like the kind of thing you should sit down and read in one go (it's not long) rather than something to dip into.
I can see why people might not like this, or think it's just pretentious, but personally I thought it was brilliant how well she managed to capture what happens in people's heads.
