Definitely not my favorite Shakespeare book by far, (had to read this for a class) but I will say I liked it more than I thought I was going to. The political drama of it all really did remind me of game of thrones, and I found a few parts even comedic (like the constant throwing down of the gages and such) I will say I was rooting for Bolingbroke for pretty much the entirety of the play but as it reached the end and Richard turned into an emo diva I really had no choice but to stan him a little.
I mean, at the end of the day it’s a play about the monarchy screwing over other people within the monarchy/aristocracy and the lack of female characters is not surprising but considering Shakespeare has plays with female characters in more prominent roles? Idk, didn’t bother me too much considering it’s a history play about a king from the 12th century. But I surprisingly enjoyed it overall.
