Along the Path of Torment by Chandler Morrison

5.0

Whew, Dead Inside lovers look out...this is definitely Morrison's most dark and disturbing book that I have read to date. I could not put this down.

The dark and seedy underbelly of the film industry exposed in this transgressive fiction novel. Following Tyler, recovering from cancer and stuck in the shadow of his Weinstein level boss and uncle. So much is wrong in this story. It's the most devastating car crash you can't look away from. Morrison's writing is intoxicating and it hooks its bony paws into you and keeps you there. Highly, highly disturbing, touching on very dark and absolutely unimaginable horrors. This is the saddest book I’ve read in a long time…

I really needed to know a bit more about these almost demon like, paranormal entities, the Grinning Man and the Yellow Woman. I feel like there was a little opportunity lost there.

Due to the nature of this story, I can't say I recommend it or not. What I will say is that Morrison's writing is some of my favorite and his ability to drive home a point is said without outwardly spelling it out for the reader, allowing us to piece it all together and apply it to how we understand the world to be. Given that I’ve read 3 of his books now, I do see themes that ultimately feel like Morrison pours a lot of himself into his work. Definitely my favorite of his so far.
