Overall I enjoyed this story. The premise and the magic was cool, the characters enjoyable. Main reason I’m not scoring it higher is because the plot was a bit predictable and I thought there could have been more world building and explanation. Especially when the beginning of the book was so focused on history and ceremony, but we’re never told why the kings were taken, or how the wood was created. Maybe this will be explored in book 2?
