Cold Burn of Magic by Jennifer Estep

4.0

This is a paranormal story but not over infused with it. Lila is a fiesty teenager just trying to survive to adulthood. Her mother was murdered and when foster care doesnt work out, MO gets her a set of papers and she hides/lives in the library and tries to live a normal teenage life. Which works out pretty well except for her side job which is stealing from the rich. As she is in Mo's shop when an attack happens that changes her whole world. As much as she tries to stay on the sidelines of the fighting families she is in the middle of it when she defends one of them. I really enjoyed this book because it was firmly rooted in the normal world with just enough paranormal to make me believe in magic.

The other strong plot was who was behind the pact to bring down one of the families. This was deftly covered through out the whole book with layers peeling away like an onion. It was a nail biter at the end as to who would survive and if the devious pact would be destroyed.
