Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata

3.0

Type of read: Commuter Read.

What made me pick it up: The TN R.E.A.D.S challenge for July includes reading a translated book and 'Convenience Store Woman' caught my attention with the bright color and preview.

Overall rating: This was a fun, quick read that really focused on societal expectations and doing what makes you happy. I'm glad I've been pushed out of my reading comfort zone with the TN R.E.A.D.s monthly challenges and that I found 'Convenience Store Woman.' I think it's one of those books that makes you realize what a book can be. I'm not saying that it swayed my rating and enjoyment of 'Convenience Store Woman' but I do think that having visited Tokyo and having a better understanding of some of the references, landmarks, and cultural differences allowed me to take in the book easier without questioning the translation of certain things.

Reader's Note: There are some very generic, bland descriptions of the human body and bodily functions.
