Echoes Among the Stones by Jaime Jo Wright
5.0
I previously wrote a review and it somehow vanished. I'll try to recall what I wrote before.
As with the previous 3 books written by Jaime Jo Wright, I greatly enjoyed it! Her characters are always well-developed, with strengths and flaws. I particularly liked the grandmother, Mumsie. She was a hoot, yet had been through so much. She really shows the reader that we need to look deeper than what we see or feel from another because we don't know what they've been through.
Once again, this book does what the other three did. It's a compelling storyline with some humour and the right amount of the delicious 'unknown.' Yet, her books ALWAYS show important truths without being 'preachy.' It's woven into the storyline.
I like that you can't figure everything out right away. You may figure out little bits and pieces, but you don't put the entire thing together until the end when it is revealed. All of her books are very intelligent reads and this is no exception. The need for our submission to a loving God and His guidance is always an integral part of the book. She shows that we are all human and make mistakes, big and small, but that our faith carries us and all we have to do is submit to His love and direction in all ways.
I should add that I have all the books in paperback form, but I did listen to the audio version for part of this one as well. While I greatly enjoyed the narration of the first two books, I do not care for the narrator of this book or the third book. However, the book stands on its own regardless.
