Fantasy Divergent fanfic to the bone. 
I am sympathetic towards Yarros in the way that writing first person POV is very fucking hard in writing fantasy, but most of the time while reading this, I felt like she hadn’t gotten used to the feel of fantasy. She wrote the dialogue, characters, world, all of it in a contemporary fiction style because that’s what she’s used to writing in! I felt like I was reading a romcom, I didn’t feel like I was reading an epic fantasy with romance like everyone said I would feel. I just felt like I was reading a rough draft. 
Now, I love romantacy; I have been on a binge of reading it for the past few months and I wanted so bad for this book to scratch that itch that I have been feeling for so long, but it wasn’t doing it. I know that this book has so much love from all of its readers and I really am happy that people love this book. It’s fun, it’s sexy (apparently) it’s diverse!!! But it’s still not doing it for me.
