Brenna Jensen is a tenacious, fierce, and
strong willed woman that you don’t want to mess with. I think out of all the Off-Campus and Briar U series characters, Brenna is probably at the top of my list when it comes to literally being a boss Queen, who does what she wants, and doesn’t apologize for her who she is. While reading “The Risk”, I could definitely see why Summer and Brenna became friends so quickly because, both women are unapologetic in who they are, they both own up to their personalities which I admired immensely. If there was another word to describe Brenna the word “dangerous” definitely comes to mind because, Brenna tests the limits ( especially the men who were immediately drawn to her) and she lives her life how she wants.
Now when it came to Jake, I was interested to learn more about him since he was briefly mentioned in passing in the Off-Campus series a few times, and of course in the first Briar U series, “The Chase”, there was more of Jake appearing and talking a bit to Breanne. Breanna and Jake are perfect for one another because, both are determined, intelligent, share an infinite love for hockey, and compliment each other wonderfully. I loved seeing Jake and Breanna’s interactions go from “enemies to lovers”, I see it that way since they literally were enemies considering Jake was the captain of Harvard’s hockey team while Breanna was Briar’s Head Coach’s daughter, therefore the rivalry between Harvard versus Briar. As much as Jake and Breanna tried to keep away from each other, there was no denying the chemistry, attraction, and heartfelt emotions that developed between them. Jake and Breanna had their fair share of spicy scenes, but as their relationship got deeper, I loved reading both Jake and Breanna’s inner thoughts as they came to the conclusion that they were falling in love with one another. The initial attraction of lust was strong in the beginning, but through significant moments such as, Breanna opening up to Jake about a traumatic experience she went through, that allowed for Jake and Breanna to grow closer, build upon the foundation of their relationship, and most importantly Brenna was able to open herself to Jake because she trusted him.
While reading this book, I considered to myself, “Does this mean I can buy/ wear Harvard clothing to represent my appreciation for Jake Connelly?” Haha these books keep making me fall in love with the Briar U/ Off Campus universe. I’ve developed a deep love for all the character, and I’m officially filing an application to be besties with Summer and Breanna because, I have a feeling we could bond over fashion, while Breanna teaches me the knowledge behind Hockey, and we could all get into some trouble.
