Seraphina by Rachel Hartman
4.0
we loooove a book that has political intrigue, strong found families, growth from all characters, and DRAGONS
mmmm and the way seraphina shows how a society’s love and hatred impacts every aspect of people’s lives - i dont want to say i loved seeing seraphina grapple with hating herself and her mother, because that’s awful, but it was incredibly impactful to read the perspective of a character who is so smart and talented go from hating herself and the woman who made her to understanding and forgiving both of them for being what they are and loving as they do
wahhhhhh it was so sweet (´°̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥ω°̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥`) and i LOOOOVED the writing style
also some fave quotes:

also some fave quotes:
page 98: I scrupulously hide every legitimate reason for people to hate me, and then it turns out they don’t need legitimate reasons. Heaven has fashioned a knife of irony to stab me with.
page 180: This is what I was. This here. This. I made myself look at the shingle of silver half-moons, the hideous line where they sprouted from my flesh like teeth pushing through gums. I was monstrous. There were things in this world I could not have.
page 221: I could start a fire with those sparks; I wanted to burn the whole world. No: I wanted to put the fire out. I could not live, hating myself this hard.
Moderate: Self harm
