I didn’t quite know how Caggiano was going to pull off a redemption arc for Xander, but she did manage it. I appreciated seeing how his relationship with his mother had made him who he was, and then to see how in this book he was able to work through some of the trauma of his childhood with her. I liked how even as he became more caring and sympathetic, he still maintained his sassiness and snarkiness. His relationship with Evangeline was endearing and quite a bit more spicy than what has been in the other books. I do wish we had gotten a bit more of Evangeline herself resolving her problems (or as Xander calls it , “The B Plot”). I did still enjoy all of the wittiness of breaking the third wall, as well as the references to Bound to Fall.
