Evidence of the Affair by Taylor Jenkins Reid
4.0
I read this via Audible narration, which is the optimum way to consume this short story. The narrators were brilliant and really brought the story to life. This novella is a series of letters and I thought the format and sequence of the letters worked well, but I think the story has the capability of being developed into a full novel, as 84 pages was just not enough.
It follows an affair between Ken and Janet, with their respective spouses conversing through letters discussing their relationship. They find solace in one another, and bond over their shared pain. Right from the beginning, my heart was tied to the story and I found myself extremely invested in their lives.
There is a shocking twist at the end of the story, it was so unexpected I completely didn't see it coming. I may be in the minority here, as I've seen other reviewers enjoy this twist, but for me it was the reason I dropped this to a 4-star read, instead of the 5-star it was projected to be for me.
I would recommend quickly reading the trigger warnings for this book as it does centre a lot on infertility, and obviously infidelity, and this may be difficult to read if you are personally affected by these issues.
I highly recommend this quick read if you are a fan of TJR, as there are a lot of easter eggs in the book too.
4/5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
