The Sirens of Baghdad by Yasmina Khadra
there are moments while reading this where you fall into the lull of great storytelling, but they are rare. mostly its dragged down by a weak, cliche riddled translation and a clumsy plot with unconvincing diatribes. that all the reviews on the dust jacket focused on a different book by the same author should have been a tip off. the good bits are enough to make me want to check out other books by the author.
