OMG. I read the first two books about 6 months ago and decided to finally get back to finishing this series, and after a chapter or two I was right back in this world. I was so impressed that I didn’t need to read any recaps and that I didn’t feel lost. I mostly remembered all of the plot and there were some nice reminders subtly dropped by the author here and there.
THIS BOOK. Loved it!!! Of course, here we come to the third act breakup (in book 3 of 5, it’s a bit premature… OH NO), but I love the real introduction of new weapons, and the twist of how the Emperor still plays his games and wins. How Aldrik has to marry the daughter of the nation they just conquered, AFTER HE PROPOSED TO VHALLA in secret!?!?! And they’re finally sleeping together!??!! So unfair. I am still 100% rooting for Daniel. Aldrik is fine, I normally like the dark broody prince, and I know we have a lot of big reveals with his past still to come, but Daniel is just SO SWEET. Sometimes it’s hard to be me. The fight between the sweet cinnamon roll or the dark, broody, semi-villain. Le sigh. On to book 4!
