The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis

4.0

Reread March 2024: Similar thoughts as last time (summer 2022), but I appreciated it a bit more, especially the ending. I look forward to deeper study soon.

First time reading in publication order so we'll see how that goes :)

summer 2022:
Of course I liked this. It's Lewis and it's Narnia; it's lovely and it feels like home. But I have a lot of questions...
Where was Mr. Tumnus shopping? What is Narnian economy/commerce like? How many good animals and such are hiding in the forests? What kind of climate has both wolves and kangaroos? Did Aslan create all these evil magical beings at the beginning of time too (and if so why), or are they corruptions of good beings? Did Edmund ever know that Aslan died for him? Who became the rulers of Narnia after the Pevensies left? (Also, it must be so disorienting to grow up and then become a child again in a second. Losing all that physical and emotional/mental maturity... wow. I would have serious trouble readjusting.) And did Digory ever go back to Narnia? Because some things he says in this book suggest that he did.
I don't remember being this confused by this book before, but the first time I read it I was six and I don't think I've actually read the whole thing through more than once since then. So maybe that explains it. My first-ever story was a Narnia fanfiction at age six; I guess it's time to return to my roots and write some more. Anyway, despite all my questions, I enjoyed listening to this. Looking forward to continuing the Chronicles.
