Loved this so much! This retelling of Poe’s The Fall of the House of Usher is a win on every level. It keeps the gothic, unsettling feel of the original story, but adds new elements so it stands on its own merits as well. The characters are fantastic, all of them, though Miss Potter was a personal favorite. The gender inclusiveness-LOVE. The fungi-LOVE. The humor-LOVE. To be honest, I listened to the audiobook because I wasn’t sure I wanted to pay full price for a novella, gorgeous as the cover may be. I’m glad I did, because the narrator did an excellent job, but I’ll also be buying the hardcover copy because my shelves need this beautiful cover and because I already want to reread it, along with anything else T. Kingfisher has written.
