4 and a half stars, actually.
As is the case in basically every short story collection, there some fantastic ones and some not so good. Here, where the stories are presented basically chronologically, some of the earliest ones are just hard-boiled without the happy ending, so not really Noir for me.
Still, a great book, never even felt its 600+ pages length...
