Knights in shining armor that rescues the maiden? No. This is refreshingly realistic, quirky but not over the top. The characters are fleshed out well enough to be fully believable and yet something out of the lavish stories and the settings are full of life. The smaller size of the stories (there are three connected books in this volume) make for a compact, driven experience.
