I wasn't really looking for much when I read this because I already saw that people had commented, and I see why. The characters in this book are unbearable and unrealistic. Matt goes away for 3 days and comes back with a wife? Is this the same Matt from Book 1? Because that old one was always complaining about how low their food supply was and how they could not afford to feed another mouth, yet here he goes bringing home a stranger and marrying them. Then his mother just goes along with it, which was also VERY out of character. Her old character would have fought to overrule this, and yes, the author tries to make the excuse that she doesn't fight back because of the fear of losing Matt, but that's just bs. Adding on to this, the kids' father returns with a whole squad that just gets killed off within 2 weeks from stupid incidents. The many deaths in this book seemed to be a way just to kill off characters, not to waste time writing about them and move on with the now crappy plot. Like how book 2 ended with a lazy wrap-up, this entire book after Chapter 5 became messy (not in a good way) and poorly written.
I said this in a last review, but I read this series YEARS ago, probably when I was in middle school or starting high school and I remembered stopping midway series because of how horrible the plot got, 8+ years later the series still turns to utter crap.
Overall, I wont be reading book 4 because I read that it is even worse then this one, tbh I would have been happy ending the series with book 2, but then again the ending was poorly done, couldn't even be called a cliffhanger.
Was going to give the book 2 Stars, however because I enjoyed the start of the book (Chapters 1-5) it only deserves a 1
