Absolutely loved the world-building, and the contrast between each of the characters and their personalities. The immersion in this world was so thorough that I did feel like I was in over my head a little. I found the woods to be full of interesting things, but then struggled to keep everything straight. I think a glossary would’ve been helpful to me. The plot was also a bit hard for me to follow… I kept getting caught up in the sections of smaller plots/stories and losing track of the bigger picture and goal.

Overall, enjoyed my time with this one, but I will need a good recap before moving on to the next book!

Violence, war & death. Clean in terms of language, and there is little to no romance. One of the characters we spend a lot of time with is referred to as “they” and gender neutral terms, though I never really understood whether this character is human or a god or what. The marital system I also didn’t understand (either it wasn’t explained or I just missed it!) but there seem to be several husbands and wives in each family?
