Kulti by Mariana Zapata
5.0
This book was not perfect.
In fact, it had too many errors. Even grammatical ones which were odd?? Some subplots were meh. Sal was annoying sometimes and Kulti was a jackass for at least 70% of the book. It could’ve been shortened. But at the end, what is wrong with me? Why am i giving this book 5 stars when it cleary deserves a 3 or at best 4?
This book made me “feel” things. You have to know, I’m not the type of person who reads 400 pages of epub at one sitting. I’m not the type to smile like an idiot or get mad at a literal ink on a paper. I’m not the type to almost scream out of joy or get bleary eyes because what the fuck? That is so not me. But this is exactly what Kulti made me feel. I devoured this book. It was 1000 pages long in epub and i still somehow managed to read it way sooner that i anticipated. I found myself constantly thinking about them during the day. I kept coming up with different scenarios for the story which is something i do only when I’m unspeakably obsessed.
I loved the plot! Yes, yes, there were plot-holes, but the idea? Fuck, i loved the idea of it. I’ve never been very fond of football. For me, it was always a boring game that so little things happened in +90 minutes. To be honest this book did not really focus on the “game” parts. Which was fine by me. I loved the age gap!! That’s my favorite trope and it was handled well.
Sal: she was probably my favorite FMC among all the romance books i read this year. She was a badass. Yes, she was rude sometimes, but that’s the nature of all football players. (Trust me, i know.) We had so many similarities!! (with the exception of me being way more aggressive and impatient than her.) this almost never happens. I never find myself in romance female characters. did she have flaws? yeah, many. But that’s still fine with me. I loved her spirit. I loved how she never stuttered. How she never backed off when it came down to calling Kulti on his bullshits.
Reiner Kulti: well, there’s allot to unpack here. Was he problematic? Yep. He was rude and oblivious. Way too much territorial. Possessive. Did i mention rude? Spoiled even. But he had all of these shitty traits in the right amounts. I hope I’m making sense here. What i mean is that Reiner Kulti, as a morally gray character, was good. He had all these bad traits beside having good ones. And it was realistic based on his history: Of course one of the most successful players in the world has a huge ego. Ofc he’s rude and ambitious. If he’s not, that’s a fucking lie. So yeah, a fucking jackass but also, the love of my life.
I’m dedicating a whole paragraph to Sal’s dad, AKA the real FMC of this book, because that guy was hilarious. I loved his bond with his daughter and how supportive he was.
I’m recommending this book to those who seek for a super-ultra-way-too-long slow-burn with morally gray characters and a good enough sport plot.
