Amended Review:
Continuing to lower my rating because this book is such a pain to get through for the rest of the series.

Four stars feels controversial with how popular this book is.
Honestly, I think I’m being swayed to rate it as highly as I am. Because the truth is, I didn’t find Xaden and Vi’s fights compelling; I found them whiny. I know it’s a bridge book with a significant amount of history and world building, but so many of the twists fell flat for me. It’s a well written fantasy book with obvious market appeal - but it’s not the best one I’ve ever read, by a decently long shot.
