Power Plays & Straight A's by Eden Finley, Saxon James
4.0
3.7 stars
I know Edin and Saxon can write better, and this book was still cute, but it felt cliché at times with pedestrian stereotypes. It’s about a total hockey jock falling for a total nerd, and I think the tropes could’ve been executed better.
You have Grant who’s an adorable gem but is a major jock that speaks in sports cliches too cheesy even for a sports romance. (“I can’t think with my stick. The only stick that matters is my hockey stick so I can make it to the NHL.”) And you have Zach who speaks like a stereotypical autistic nerd from a 90s show. (“The primitive alpha males seem to use sports to prove they can copulate and help the species survive.”) I didn’t fully understand their attraction to each other, but the story was still cute.
Ultimately this is a good intro to the series, but the better stories are in the sequels.
Spice: 3/5
