While I liked this one a bit more than its predecessor, I think I will be done with the series (At least for quite a while). This one had some fun adventure bits with a sea voyage, some pirates, a little bit of Mystery and as always good action sequences, which I am discovering more and more, I am just not the biggest fan of in most books. And also these books tend to overdo them which make them feel tiring. Wasn’t the case for this book though which is a plus.
The characters are still for the most part likable albeit still very stereotypical and the silliness of some of them really gives me some good chuckles.
All of this though can’t just make up for the whole plot being so goddamn weak. I mean there was one not insubstantial part of the story involving the barbarians of Icewind Dale that I just didn’t care at all but that just wasn’t even the biggest offense of this book. It just sets up this supposed big Mystery (which already got teased in the previous books) and its climax and reveal should give us this huge emotional moment at the end of the book. But sadly none of that works if you see it coming from a mile away. Also the villian of this book just doesn't feel threatening at all and as a result of all this it just robs the overall story of all kinds of tension and just makes it dull.
I don’t think that the strengths of the series can make up for its weaknesses anymore and I just find myself enjoying the overall experience less and less.
