This wasn’t a great book. The first half was stilted and boring, the plot barely picked up in the second half, and most of the side characters were disappointing (except for Carly’s mom - She’s my mom now too; I love her).
Really, the ONLY saving grace of this book is Kassam and Carly. With Kassam’s aspect being hedonism, I spent the beginning of the book underwhelmed and turned off by how insincere all of the spice was.
But I loved how Kassam’s feeling for Carly became so open and genuine as the book progressed. It was great to see a god so open about his feelings after Aron and Rhagos. Not just in his feelings for Carly either (he was so smitten with her though - it was adorable). Kassam’s feelings towards humanity and all living things was so pure. It really gave the book an emotional depth that was unexpected - especially with how mundane the rest of the book was.
Spice: 4/5
