I DNF’ed this book early on and only completed it as part of Book Riot’s 2023 “Read Harder Challenge” (prompt: read a book that you DNF’ed). The concept of the book sounded so interesting, but the execution didn’t deliver. I was frustrated and disengaged throughout most of the story because of bad writing and awkward/bland dialogue. It was difficult to immerse myself in the world due to poor world building, as well as nearly non-existent or contradictory descriptive writing. Unfortunately, I think the hype was too much for this one and set my expectations too high.
